In bringing the Journey catalog up to the state-of-the-art sound quality (and yes, I agree the older discs need to be remastered and volume leveled), are you planning on remastering to audio levels where digital clipping is readily apparent? I'm well familiar with the 'Loudness Wars' and really would prefer it if, when you bring the volume levels up, that you don't bring them up to the point of digital clipping. I want to hear the music as it was recorded, not clipped as present digital media is being released. It's really frustrating to hear the 'wall of sound' that's so apparent on new releases like Avril Lavigne's CDs. Please consider this issue before you release the remastered discs. I'll definitely want to hear the releases before I invest cash into repurchasing the entire updated catalog on CD.
We didn't remaster the catalog for volume. We remastered it using the newest analog to digital converters. No EQ or loudness levels were changed. That is only done by people who don't know what they're doing. Thanks for your concern - that's what makes remastering the music so rewarding. I hope when you hear the results you're pleased - they should be coming out over the next few months.
Why would a guy that looks like he's about 39 need to retire?
Thanks for the compliment. I've done the best work I feel I can do. Right now, I don't feel like there is anything artistically challenging for me to do in the music business. That's not to say that I couldn't be enticed to get back in, such as for a real new Eagles studio recording or something equally cool, like a super group with Chad Kroeger and/or the House Band from Rockstar.
I'm from Brazil, and Is a big satisfaction to me talk whit you. You must to Know why. Sorry about my English, was Steven who´s taught to me... (in his lyrics) Hehehe. I'm a Singer Too. I would like to express me better to say to you how much i respect and admire you. Unfortunately the music will miss a great professional... You!!! I'll miss you. I'm your fan since "Pink" (Aerosmith)...When I was just 15. You works with passion and devotion...Because of this you has fans until here in Brazil, like me...in this small city (Bento Gonçalves, with just 90.000 habitants.) Congratulations and ENJOY this new fase. Live the Life......but come back someday. (I think you'll gonna do it.)
Thank you very much! Your reaction is one of the reasons why I did my job and what made it so worthwhile. And you speak English a lot better than I speak Portuguese!

I'd like to thank you so much for producing Journey's LIVE IN HOUSTON 1981 ESCAPE TOUR DVD! Great sound and awesome performance from the band! Anything else planned for Journey and/or Steve Perry? Once again thanks and wish you a great 2006!
I'm glad you enjoy the Houston DVD. Right now Steve Perry and I are repackaging (with original packaging and artwork) and bringing up the masters to the state of the art CD standards for the entire Journey catalog and Steve's solo records. They should be released in the Summer and Fall of 2006.

What a great alliance. I can't wait for the release. You have certainly found a true star. Take good care of her. Can you smell a Grammy? I do ;-) Keep Rockin JDK! Tell Suzy and Marti her fans are waiting patiently!
Thank you very much! I would love for it to win a Grammy and I hope it does, but I definitely think it will win at least one Juno in Canada.
Hi John, is there any of Journey's captured tours on any film? Any chance that some of it will come out on DVD? I think "do you recall” is classic Steve Perry vocals and Neil Schon lead break.
I'm not aware of any Captured footage.

Any update on the Shaw/Blades release of Influence and/or tour news? Thanks!
No updates - I wish there were. The album is still in limbo - we haven't gotten much record company interest for reasons that I (and Jack and Tommy) don't understand. Do you have any suggestions for how it should be released?
I have been working with Roadstar (Hurricane Party) since the beginning of 2005 and, like you, see them as the future of British rock if not global. I am sorry to hear that you plan to retire. It is a shame not to help break this band world wide first and be instrumental in bringing good songwriting and showmanship back to the rock world before you put your feet up.
Thanks for your kind words. I totally agree with you that they are the future of British rock and I think their record is incredible. I couldn't get anything to happen for them at Sanctuary and I tried to get them a deal elsewhere. I was at an impasse with them so I thought it was better for them to be free. I hope that they're one of the biggest rock bands ever. |
